Summary

Although modern image processing permits manipulations up to and including surrealistic image contents, the rendering of fine details as well as the range of contrast depend on the quality of the originals. Therefore, in order to obtain better pictures in newspaper printing, it is important to explain to photographers and photo reporters how the most suitable b/w and colour photos for newspaper printing should be produced. That is the aim of this Special Report. Included also are easily understandable explanations of the type of original to be used, whether transparencies, negatives, reflection copy, facsimile colour separations, or in the form of digital data.
