Summary

Principally, it should be possible to define a printing ink in physical terms and to interpret its on-press behaviour (at least in a given process like newspaper offset printing) by means of these terms. Procedures for testing in-coming materials at printing plants need those guidelines to avoid production interruptions later on the press. This is why it was decided to start a research project together with NATS with the aim of selecting adequate measuring methods for newsinks, to check their correlations to practise and to establish practical guidelines to characterize newsinks by means of these methods.
